Boss Babes: An Interview With Laura From A Worthy Brand

Issue 3 – March 2nd, 2020

Hey loves! Today we’re starting a series called Boss Babes. The first Monday of every month, we’re going to interview inspirational female business owners and bloggers. Today we’re going to be talking to Laura from a Worthy Brand. Her brand specializes in bohemian hair accessories and jewelry made to empower.  She incorporates a lot of gemstones in her work. Let’s get started.

Terri: Hi Laura. It’s great to be able to speak with you.
Laura: Thank you so much for this opportunity Terri!
Terri: Well, lets get started with you telling our readers a little about yourself.

How long have you been working for yourself?

Well I spent about 1.5 years researching and taking courses before I launched last May.  It’s been about 10 months since I launched A Worthy Brand.

What were you doing before you decided to work for yourself? And what made you make that decision?

I worked for my father’s business for a long time.  I was in a low place after experiencing trauma and loss.  A good friend had started her business and she inspired me and got me thinking that I too could start a business.  Entrepreneurship has been in my blood since I was a young girl and I had several little businesses growing up so it was a natural fit.

Every company has a mission. So, what was your mission from the outset?

A Worthy Brand was created with the mission to highlight a woman’s worth while empowering her to feel seen and be heard. This is very important to me because I didn’t feel heard or seen in my 20’s and I don’t want anyone to ever feel that way.

What was the hardest thing about getting started and how did you overcome it?

Actually launching my signature collection was a huge hurdle.  I had impostor syndrome because I’m not a trained jeweler or metal smith. I eventually realized if I didn’t launch immediately I never would.  Now my biggest regret is not starting sooner!

What’s one thing that you love about your business?

My customers! I call them my tribe. But it’s really OUR tribe. The support and love I get from my tribe feeds my soul. I LOVE hearing from my customers after they receive their order. I want women to realize they deserve special things, and when they do realize it, it’s by far the best feeling.

Out of all of your products, which one is your absolute favorite and why?

That’s so hard!  It’s like choosing your favorite child.  I would say my favorite is my blue labradorite gemstone hair comb.  It’s an Etsy best seller and people seem to gravitate to it.

If you had one piece of advice to give aspiring business owners and entrepreneurs, what would it be?

I literally tell myself this everyday. Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle or end. It’s not fair to do that to yourself. I see some businesses killing it and everything seems perfect, but what I’m not seeing is HOW they got there.
Also, there is enough room for us all.  Community over competition ALWAYS.  I believe in abundance not scarcity.

As you may know, Zevorie Studio is all about positivity and joy, so we have a few fun questions to ask you before we wrap up our interview today.

First, what is one thing that you do to bring a little happiness to your day?

I take my dogs on a nice walk at sunset. Getting out for a few minutes in the fresh air can really help. Those walks are extremely important to me.

Where is one place that you would love to visit in the future?

Hmm maybe Italy? I hope one day I have the chance to travel to all the places I want to see like Ireland, Germany, Scotland, all the places my ancestors are from.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Me. Without fear of rejection, I want to be the best version of me that I possibly can.
